We will explore the connections of basic vocal function [breath, phonation, resonance, articulation and expression] as a means to work with Whispered Ah with our students thus helping them make the connections with breath and vocalization in order to achieve an embodied, expressive sound.

The class will include some discussion of vocal technique and its application to Alexander's principles, with vocal exercises and vocalizations as part of the experience of exploring the magic of 'Whispered Ah’.

BIO: Dr. Ann Rhodes is a retired professor of vocal music who has been actively involved in the study and application of the Alexander Technique at many of the world’s finest universities and organizations. She received her Alexander Teacher Certification in 2005 (?) from Alexander Technique of Cincinnati, Vivien and Neil Schapera, Directors.

“She is a natural teacher and it is apparent that she loves teaching also. I cannot recommend her highly enough.”

Richard Brennan, Director of the Alexander Technique Centre, Galway, Ireland

“Dr. Ann’s extensive knowledge of the voice as well as the Alexander Technique makes her an ideal Alexander teacher for singers. She is a compassionate teacher who conveys a wonderful sense of empathy to her students. As I continue to integrate her suggestions regarding my posture, alignments, breath, and presence, I can hear, feel, and see the difference in not only my singing, but my students’ singing as well.”

Sarah Maines, DMA, Voice Teacher, Portland, OR
