ACAT Studio Policies & Procedures

The ACAT studio supports our mission of promoting and furthering the understanding of the Alexander Technique by:
1) hosting the ACAT Teacher Certification Program 2) providing a location for members to teach private lessons during our OPEN DAY program, on a drop-in basis in a collegial environment.
3) providing a location for members to teach private lessons by reserving half the studio
4) providing a location for members to schedule series of lessons or workshops reserving the entire studio.
5) providing a location for members and associate members to schedule classes, lectures, meetings and workshops in related mind/body awareness arts, disciplines or practices.

The ACAT studio is large (approx. 900 sq. ft), bright, and spacious with wood floors, mirrors, windows, ceiling fans, AC, bodywork tables, chairs, stools, floor mats, anatomical drawings and drinking water. Also available by arrangement are a dry erase board, a video/DVD player and monitor, a CD player, physioballs,yoga mats, and cushions.
Studio Rates
Open Day/Wednesdays:
$7.50 a lesson MEMBERS ONLY
Private/Semi-Private lesson:
$12.50 a lesson MEMBERS ONLY
AT Group / AT Workshop:
$25.00 an hour MEMBERS ONLY
Related Classes/Practices/Meetings: $30.00 an hour MEMBERS & ASSOCIATE MEMBERS
Access Card Deposit:
$50.00 Refundable/ For weekend use only

Open Day
The Open Day Program - started in 2001 - is in effect every Wednesday from 2:30pm-9:30pm. Teaching members may teach private lessons on a drop-in basis. First time users will need to meet/speak with the Studio Coordinator to arrange access to the studio. In order for this program to work - it is essential that you sign in every time you use teach at Open Day. Because multiple teachers/students may be in the studio at the same time, the more experienced teachers may guide newer teachers in the courtesy and etiquette of accommodation necessary to make this program work. Although theoretically possible, it has never yet been reported that teachers and students had a prohibitive wait. Payments (by check only - sorry no cash) should be made when you teach your lessons. Make checks to ACAT and please indicate the day and time of your lesson(s) on your checks or accompanying note. If the office is unattended, you may use one of the envelopes provided and slip the payment under the locked office door. Teachers who have been using the program for the last 6 months and teach more than 5 lessons a month, may speak with Office Staff to make monthly payment arrangements.
½ Studio
Private, or Semi-Private lessons can be reserved on a week-to-week basis for up to 30 days in advance. First time users will need to meet/speak with the Studio Coordinator to arrange access to the studio. After checking the calendar for availability, call the studio coordinator with your request. Once your reservation is confirmed by the Studio Coordinator, you will be responsible for paying the fee unless you cancel 48 hours in advance. Payments (by check only – sorry, we cannot accept cash) should be made when you teach your lesson. Make checks to ACAT and please indicate the day and time of your lesson(s) on your checks or accompanying note. If the office is unattended, you may use one of the envelopes provided and slip the payment under the locked office door. Teachers who have been using the program for the last 6 months and teach more than 5 lessons a month, may speak with Office Staff to make monthly payment arrangements.
Full Studio
Group Lessons, Lectures, and Meetings are handled on a contractual basis. After checking the calendar for availability, call the studio coordinator with your request. If available, the Studio Coordinator will prepare a contract for you. Your reservation is confirmed when a signed contract and a check for 50% of the entire rental fee is received by the Studio Coordinator. The remaining 50% of the fee is due one week before the event/first day of use. Cancellation fee - for group lessons, lectures, or meetings and classes arranged by a contract the user may cancel: (i) up to 28 days prior to the start date with a 10% cancellation fee ii) between 28 and 14 days prior to the start date with a 20% cancellation fee; (ii) between 14 days and 7 days prior to the event with a 35% cancellation fee; (iii) between 7 days and 24 hours of the event 50% cancellation fee; or (iv) within 24 hours the user must pay for 100% of the rental charges.
Studio Etiquette and Maintenance
Your cooperation in adhering to the studio policies and your assistance in maintaining the condition and appearance of the studio allow us to continue to offer teaching and convening space to our members and associate members at very affordable rates. Other requirements and guidelines will be included in the contracts prepared for group lessons, lecture, meetings and classes by the Studio Coordinator.
